If you want to become a better soccer player you need to practice. It’s easy to find practice time as a child or teenager, but what about as adults? Once we hit a certain age, the practice time drops off and so do our soccer skills. At Toronto Rush, we believe you are never too old to stop improving. That’s why we have adult soccer clinics that are available to everyone. Regardless of your age, gender, or skill level, our adult recreational soccer clinics will help you improve your game.
Coach PhilPhil calls many places home in the UK including London, Sunderland and Kent and has an obvious passion for the beautiful game. Phil was a member of Sittingbourne FC and was also part of the Gillingham FC youth team before taking an extended period away from the game due reoccurring injuries. Since moving to Canada over 10 years ago Phil has enjoyed soccer within the CPSL and still plays locally in the HPSSL. Phil has coached women's and junior soccer teams across the GTA and holds certifications from NSCAA and the OSA and plans to acquire his provincial license later this year. Phil continues to strive to achieve higher level certification and knowledge year after year.
Can anyone participate in the clinics?
Yes anyone can come out and train, the classes are open to all ages and all skill levels, male or female. We have players from 18 to 45 regularly in the sessions.
What is the main focus of these adult soccer clinics?
The main focus is to improve your all round game, We focus on what we feel the group needs to work on as a whole, being more comfortable on the ball, we will spend more time on fist touch and ball skills, bad formation during games we will work on passing and moving drills. We really cater to whatever we feel is needed and what people want, we end every session asking people what they would like to do next week and we try to work all requests in.
Walk us through an average practice - what can participants expect?
Sessions are broken out into four main sections, fitness and soccer specific strength exercises, technical or ball control, shooting and 1v1 drills and we finish with a small sided game or scrimmage where we work on positioning and decision making.
Do I need to be in good shape to participate?
Nope, we encourage everyone to work hard but also within their limits, after all injuries are not fun and you miss too much training. One thing is for sure, you will certainly be in better shape when you are finished the course.
When is it too late for an adult to improve their soccer skills?
Never, we have had players that have trained and we have seen improvement after 4 to 5 sessions. It has been proven all over the world, time on the ball means better skills.
Can you teach an old dog new tricks?
Of course, we might not be able to turn you into Messi or Ronny, but we are always tweaking old habits and introducing new good ones, deeks, shooting technique, game awareness. We pride ourselves on keeping things fun and fresh but the upmost importance to me is that players feeling that they are learning and developing.... whatever stage in life you are at. Doesn't matter how good you are, practice makes perfect... or at least better.
